ASSIGNMENT:
Some may experience excitement, anxiety, a feeling of being overwhelmed, when leaving a familiar space and entering uncharted territory.
But, what fuels those feelings?
Was 2019-2020 better than you'd planned? Unexpected moments - good, bad, or indifferent, meet you along the way?
You've got to be intentional in your next chapter, but the only way to do so is by giving some serious thought to how you handled this chapter. It's time to candidly reflect, make the necessary adjustments in order to be successful for your next school year.
A poignant quote that can be applied to this logic is, "We think too much and feel too little." Charlie Chaplin.
It is often human nature to over process possibilities, the what could lie ahead notion and truly forget about what and who shaped us along the way. We can't afford to miss the great opportunity perspective and reflection bring us.
In this assignment, I'd like you to take a moment to ponder over Chapter 1920 and challenge yourself along the way to be honest.
Here are some points of reflection that may help you in your journey of transparency, growth, success, and self-love:
1. What teacher(s) influenced you the most this year? And why?
2. What subject/class challenged you the most? And why?
3. What area(s) of opportunity did you miss that you may want to revisit, if you could?
4. Did you have a moment where you could've used better judgment in communicating with a teacher?
5. How would you rate your communication skills? What area(s) of improvement do you need to make to better communicate?
6. Did you do your best? Be honest.
7. How did goal setting impact your year? If you didn't set goals, will you do so now? Have you realized the importance of goal setting?
8. Do you have a plan?
9. What is one thing you blamed someone else for, teacher or peer, that you need to take accountability for?
10. How's your integrity? Did it show up this year or did you find yourself telling untruths that gravely impacted someone else's life?
Reflection, Planning, Improvement
Being honest in your assessments is what makes one great. Recognizing you may be the problem is the first step in pursuit of greatness. None of us are perfect and the best way to improve is to have a plan of action/goal setting strategy, and integrity. The moments when you do what is right, when no one is watching is called integrity. The moment when you elect to not throw someone else under the bus for your own poor judgment, is called integrity. There are three key factors successful humans possess: integrity, empathy, and dedication. It is a grave mistake to be the one who throws the rock and then hides their hands. Possessing characteristics that aren't reflective of someone who owns accountability and trustworthiness is a recipe for disaster.
So, let's get down to the nitty gritty and find our transparency in the way we handled Chapter 1920, our teachers, our peers, but most importantly ourselves. It is important that in our pursuit to greatness that we write down our vision, so that we can make it plain and return to it in the years to come. It is a great way to truly measure where you are mentally and emotionally now. It brings about some feel-good moments when you can read where you were - it's the only way to truly assess where you're going.
To help you come up with a plan of action and reflect, I've put together some items to truly make your next chapter the best one yet. I believe in you.
Roots
Within your two-page reflection, take a moment to reflect on what's beneath the surface of life - you can do this through pictures or words. If you use pictures, you must create 3-5 sentence captions to describe the photo/feeling.
On a blank sheet of paper or within a digital platform, create three columns: Blooms, Weeds, and Miracle Grow.
1. Blooms (the areas you love or found the most growth)
2. Weeds (the areas you'd rather forget/not so pretty moments)
3. Miracle Grow (the areas of opportunity/things you could've done better/gotten right)
- Flowers (what did you love)
- Weeds (what would you leave out)
- Fertilizer (what could you add or improve)
